B. TRAINING PROGRAM
1. Training Objectives
To train scientists with a high level of theoretical knowledge and excellent practical capacity; the ability to conduct independent and creative research; the capacity to identify and solve novel problems of scientific and technological significance, and to supervise scientific research in the field of veterinary medicine.
1.2. Specific Objectives
Knowledge: Possess a specialized, advanced, and comprehensive knowledge system in the scientific field of veterinary medicine; possess in-depth knowledge of research design and scientific writing.
Skills: Possess skills to identify and analyze complex problems and provide creative solutions; ability to establish national and international cooperation networks in professional activities; ability to synthesize collective intelligence and lead professionally to address regional and international issues in veterinary medicine; skills in designing, collecting, processing data, and writing reports; ability to use at least one foreign language in professional activities.
Autonomy and Responsibility: Ability to adapt to an internationally integrated working environment, possess leadership capabilities, and influence the strategic development orientation of the collective; autonomy and self-responsibility in research activities, knowledge development, and the creation of new ideas and processes in the field of veterinary medicine.

3. Admission Requirements (Entry Standards)
3.1. Professional Requirements
Candidates are university graduates or master’s degree holders in exact or relevant majors according to Decision No. 44/QĐ-ĐHNL dated January 17, 2022, of the Rector of the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University on issuing the List of exact, closely related, and relevant majors for doctoral and pre-doctoral admissions and training, specifically:
- Exact major: Learners holding a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in veterinary medicine. For learners without a Master’s degree, they must complete supplementary modules at the corresponding Master’s level (Master of Veterinary Medicine), excluding foreign language modules and the thesis, with a minimum required volume of 30 credits (the list of supplementary modules is attached in Table 2).
- Relevant major: Learners holding a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science or Animal Science – Veterinary Medicine. Master’s degree holders in relevant majors must complete 8 supplementary credits from 4 regulated modules (list attached in Table 3).

3.2. Foreign Language Requirements
Candidates must meet the foreign language proficiency requirements as stipulated in Item 8, Article 10 of the Regulations on Doctoral Admission and Training of the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University, enclosed with Decision No. 775/QĐ-ĐHNL dated November 22, 2021, of the Rector of the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University.
4. Training Process and Graduation Conditions
4.1. Mode of Training
Doctoral training is organized as formal, full-time education; Ph.D. students must dedicate sufficient time to studying and researching at the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University according to the approved plan.
4.2. Training Duration
The doctoral training duration in Veterinary Medicine for holders of a Master’s degree or equivalent to Level 7 of the Vietnamese National Qualifications Framework is 03 years (36 months); for university graduates, it is 04 years (48 months). The training period is calculated from the effective date of the admission decision. Each Ph.D. student will have a comprehensive study and research plan within the standard training framework approved alongside the admission decision.
Ph.D. students are permitted to complete the training program earlier than the planned duration by no more than 01 year (12 months), or later than the planned duration, provided that the total training time does not exceed 06 years (72 months) calculated from the effective date of the admission decision to the time of completing procedures to submit the dissertation to Hue University, prior to the independent peer-review process and the establishment of the Hue University-level Dissertation Evaluation Committee.
4.3. Training Progression
The doctoral training in Veterinary Medicine follows this progression:
(1) Evaluation and approval of the research proposal
(2) Taking compulsory and elective modules
(3) Executing elective thematic essays and comprehensive thematic essay
(4) Presentation and evaluation of elective thematic essays and comprehensive thematic essay
(5) Institutional-level evaluation of the dissertation
(6) Independent peer review of the dissertation
(7) Hue University-level evaluation of the dissertation
(8) Finalizing the dossier for degree recognition and Ph.D. diploma issuance
4.4. Graduation Conditions
Ph.D. students are considered for doctoral degree recognition and diploma issuance if they meet all conditions specified in Clause 1, Article 29 of the Regulations on Doctoral Admission and Training of the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University, enclosed with Decision No. 775/QĐ-ĐHNL dated November 22, 2021, of the Rector of the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University.
5. Structure of the Training Program
The doctoral training program in Veterinary Medicine consists of 90 credits, in which the total credits for compulsory modules, elective modules, elective thematic essays, and the comprehensive essay are 14 credits. The doctoral dissertation accounts for 76 credits.

6. Assessment Methods
6.1. Assessment of compulsory and elective modules
Upon completion of studies, modules are evaluated and graded on a 10-point scale. The assessment method for each module is specified in detail in section 9 of the module syllabi.
6.2. Assessment of elective thematic essays and comprehensive thematic essay
The evaluation of thematic essays and the comprehensive essay is conducted by grading the Ph.D. student’s presentation before an Evaluation Subcommittee. The Evaluation Subcommittee consists of 03 members holding a minimum of a doctoral degree (at least 36 months since the decision of recognizing the doctoral degree), who are scientists with profound knowledge of the seminar topic and the student’s research field, fulfilling the standards of Article 17 of the Regulations on Doctoral Admission and Training at Hue University, including 01 dissertation supervisor and the student’s seminar supervisor. The evaluation score for a doctoral seminar and comprehensive essay is the arithmetic mean of the scores given by the members of the Evaluation Subcommittee and is rounded to one decimal place. The passing grade for doctoral seminars and the comprehensive essay is 7.0 or higher.
6.3. Assessment of doctoral dissertation
The methodology for evaluating the institutional-level doctoral dissertation is implemented according to the process in Article 24, the institutional-level dissertation evaluation complies with Article 25, and the Hue University-level dissertation evaluation complies with Article 26 of Decision No. 775/QĐ-ĐHNL dated November 22, 2021, of the Rector of the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University.
