- Program objectives
1.1. General goal
The goal of the program is to train leaners to become scientists with high theoretical qualifications and good practical skills, capable of conducting independent and creative research, able to discover and solve arising problems, contributing significantly to science and technology, and guiding scientific research in the field of animal sciences.
1.2. Specific goals

Possesses a systematic, in-depth, advanced, and comprehensive understanding of specialized scientific knowledge in the field of animal sciences; has in-depth knowledge of research design and writing research results.
– Skills
Have skills to identify and analyze complex issues and provide innovative solutions to solve them; capable of establishing national and international collaboration networks in professional activities; possesses the ability to compile collective intelligence and lead specialized tasks to address issues on a regional and international scale in the field of animal sciences; skilled in designing, collecting, processing data, and writing reports; proficient in using at least one foreign language in professional activities.

- Target admission candidates (entry requirements)
3.1. Professional requirements
The target admission candidates are students who have graduated with a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree in correct or relevant majors according to Decision No. 44/QĐ-ĐHNL dated January 17, 2022, by the Rector of the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University, regarding the issuance of the List of correct, relevant and closely-related majors for doctoral and pre-doctoral admission and training:
– Correct majors: Students with a master’s degree in Animal Sciences, Animal Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, or Veterinary Medicine; students with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences, Animal Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, or Veterinary Medicine. For students who do not have a master’s degree, they must take supplementary courses at the corresponding master’s level (Master’s in Animal Sciences), excluding foreign language courses and the thesis, with a minimum of 30 credits of supplementary knowledge (a list of supplementary courses is attached in Table 2).
Learners have master’s degrees in the majors of Animal Sciences, Animal Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, or Veterinary Medicine; learners with university degrees in the fields of Animal Sciences, Animal Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, or Veterinary Medicine. For learners that do not have a master’s degree, they must take additional courses at the corresponding master’s level (Master of Animal Sciences), excluding foreign language courses and dissertations, the minimum amount of additional knowledge is 30 credits (with honors). The list of additional modules is in Table 2).
– Relevent majors: Learners with a master’s degree in Agricultural Systems, or Tropical Animal Husbandary Systems; learners with a bachelor degree in Agriculture, Aquaculture, or Agronomy.
People with a master’s degree in an suitable field need to take additional 9 credits of 3 courses according to regulations (Table 3).

3.2. Foreign language conditions
Applicants must have sufficient foreign language ability according to section 8, article 10 of the Admission Regulations for doctoral training of the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University together with Decision No. 775/QD-DHNL November 22, 2021 by the Rector of the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University.
- Training process and graduation requirements
4.1. Form of training
Doctoral level training is organized in the form of formal, concentrated training; PhD students must spend enough time studying and researching at the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University according to the approved plan.
4.2. Training time
The training period for a doctorate in Animal Sciences is 3 years (36 months) for those with a master’s degree or equivalent to level 7 according to the Vietnamese National Qualifications Framework; and 4 years (48 months) for those with a bachelor’s degree. The training period begins from the date of the issued Decision for the official admission of the doctoral candidate. Each doctoral candidate has a comprehensive study and research plan that falls within the approved standard training framework, which is included in the Decision recognizing the candidate’s admission.
Doctoral candidates are allowed to complete the training program no more than 1 year (12 months) earlier than the full-course study and research plan. The candidates may also extend their studies beyond the plan, as long as the total training duration does not exceed 6 years (72 months), starting from the effective date of the Decision recognizing the doctoral candidate’s admission until the date of completing all procedures to submit the dissertation to Hue University, before proceeding with the independent review process and establishing the dissertation evaluation council at Hue University.
4.3. Training process
Doctoral training in Animal Sciences is carried out according to the following process:
(1) Evaluate and approve the research proposal
(2) Study compulsory courses and elective courses
(3) Carry out elective topics and general topics
(4) Evaluation report on elective topics and general topics
(5) Evaluate grassroots level thesis
(6) Independent review of the thesis
(7) Evaluation of Hue University thesis
(8) Complete the application for recognition of qualifications and award of doctoral degrees
4.4. Graduation requirements
PhD candidates will be considered for recognition of their qualifications and awarded a doctoral degree if they meet the requirements according to Clause 1, Article 29 of the Admission Regulations for Doctoral Degree Training of the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University attached to the Decision. No. 775/QD-DHNL dated November 22, 2021 of the Rector of the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University.
- Structure of the training program
The training program for the master’s degree in Animal Sciences has 90 credits, of which 14 credits are for compulsory courses, elective courses, elective specialized topics and overview essay; 76 credits are for the doctoral thesis.

*Note: In addition, based on the instructor’s request, graduate students can suggest additional options Topics (2 credits/topic) outside this orientation list, but closely related to the thesis topic and approved by the Chairman of the Science and Training Council of the Faculty of Animal Sciences and Veterinary Medicine; Or from the above topics, rename them to suit the research direction.
6. Evaluation method
6.1. Evaluate mandatory and elective courses.
After finishing studying, the courses will be evaluated and graded on a 10-point scale. The evaluation method for each courses is specified in section 9 of the detailed syllabus of the courses.
6.2. Evaluate elective and general topics
The evaluation of the specialized topic and overview essay is conducted by grading the presentation of the doctoral candidate before the Evaluation Subcommittee. The Evaluation Subcommittee consists of 3 members who hold at least a doctoral degree (with at least 36 months since the decision recognizing their doctoral degree). The members of the Subcommittee are scientists with in-depth knowledge of the specialized topic and the candidate’s research area, meeting the standards of Article 17 of the Admission and Training Regulations for Doctoral Degrees at Hue University. This includes 1 thesis advisor and another advisor for the candidate’s topic. The score for the specialized topic and overview essay is the average of the scores given by the Subcommittee members, rounded to one decimal place. The passing score for the doctoral topic and overview essay is 7.0 or higher.
6.3.Evaluation of doctoral dissertations
Evaluation of doctoral dissertations at the grassroots level is carried out according to the process in Article 24, evaluation of doctoral dissertations at the grassroots level is carried out according to Article 25, and evaluation of doctoral dissertations at the university level. Hue University shall comply with Article 26 of Decision No. 775/QD-DHNL dated November 22, 2021 of the Principal of the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University.
